  18.    This is version 1.0 of Dos-Manager. You can copy, delete, view, show
  19. as pictures, play as samples, execute, rename, ... , files with this
  20. programme.

  31. 1. Installation
  32.  
  33.         Dos-Manager needs the arp.library to run. It must
  34.     therefore be installed in your LIBS-Directory of your system
  35.     disk. The batch file "Install_ARP" can do this for you, simply
  36.     depress its icon twice.
  37.         Dos-Manager needs also the two programmes "Format" and
  38.     "DiskCopy", which should be installed in your System-Directory,
  39.     for problem free running.

  42. 2. Loading Dos-Manager
  43.  
  44.         Basically Dos-Manager can only be started from the CLI.
  45.     If you want to call it from the Workbench you need "Xicon",
  46.     which is already installed on this disk.
  47.  
  48. 2.1 Starting from the CLI
  49.         When the disk with Dos-Manager on it is inserted in
  50.     the disk drive "df1:" the programme can be started as follows:
  51.  
  52.     - cd df1:
  53.       execute Dos-Manager/Dos-Manager, or:
  54.  
  55.     - df1:Dos-Manager/Dos-Manager.prg
  56.

  58. 2.2 Starting from the Workbench
  59.     Simply select the icon of Dos-Manager.
  60.  
  61.         As soon as the programme is loaded, you will be asked
  62.     to insert your SYS-Disk, because Dos-Manager wants to read the
  63.     preferences which are saved in the file "Sys:t/Dos-Manager.prefs".
  64.     If this operation fails, e.g. it does not yet exist, Dos-Manager
  65.     will give out an error-message, but after that will work normally.

  68. 3. Dos-Manager, the programme
  69.  
  70.         After the programme is loaded, a display, which gives you
  71.     information about Dos-Manager, will appear. Depress the right
  72.     mousebutton and it will disappear.
  73.         Now you will see the two windows required to copy files.
  74.     The left window is the SOURCE, the right window the DESTINATION.
  75.         All commands, e.g. copying, deleting, moving, ... , files
  76.     refer to all selected SOURCE files. This selection is carried out
  77.     by using the left mousebutton. When a file from the right hand
  78.     window is selected for an operation nothing will happen.
  79.         Below the two windows you can see four menus: "Dos-
  80.     Operator", "IFFOperator", "UserCommands" and "Extras". If you
  81.     select one of these symbols you can go to the sub-menu, from
  82.     where you can call the commands you want. If you select "Menu"
  83.     you will return to the main menu.

  86. 3.1 The windows
  87.  
  88. 3.1.1 Loading of directories
  89.  
  90.     - Source: If you select this symbol, a questionaire will appear
  91.         that asks you to identify the drive unit (e.g. df0:,
  92.         df1:, dh0:). After that the programme section will be
  93.         loaded in the left hand window.
  94.  
  95.     - Destination: The same as "Source", but the programme section
  96.         will be loaded in the right hand window.
  97.

  99.       After the files are loaded, they will be sorted automatically.
  100.     Directories will be written white, files black.
  101.       If you select a directory with your the mousebutton, you will
  102.     move from the current directory to that directory.
  103.  
  104.     - Parent: With this you can go to the previous directory.
  105.  
  106.     - Read:    Reads SOURCE and DESTINATION once again.
  107.

  109. 3.1.2 Include and Exclude
  110.  
  111.     - Include: If you select this symbol a questionaire, in which
  112.         you can enter four wildcard-patterns will appear. Only
  113.         if a file agrees with one of these patterns, will it
  114.         be loaded. You can use all wildcard-patterns known by
  115.         ARP. These wildcard-patterns are: *, #, ?, (, |, ),
  116.         {, }, [, ].
  117.  
  118.     - Exclude: With "Exclude" you can exclude some of the "included"
  119.         files. Otherwise the same as "Include" above.
  120.  
  121.     Examples:
  122.  
  123.         (1) You want to display all files, but not those with the
  124.             ending "-.info", "-.obj", "-.ref". Please enter as
  125.             follows:
  126.  
  127.             Include:  "*"   <-- imports all files
  128.  
  129.             Exclude:  "*.info"    -.info
  130.                   "*.obj"    -.obj and
  131.                   "*.ref"    -.ref won´t be displayed.
  132.  
  133.             All other characters must be deleted.
  134.  
  135.         (2) You want to load all files with a suffix (-.-) or
  136.             with the syllable "DOS" in them, but furthermore you
  137.             won´t display files with the ending "-.info". You must
  138.             now enter as follows:
  139.  
  140.             Include:  "*.*"    Suffix and
  141.                   "*DOS*"    syllable "DOS"
  142.                     will be imported.
  143.  
  144.             Exclude:  "*.info"    -.info won´t be displayed.
  145.

  147. 3.1.3 Selecting of files
  148.  
  149.       Files and directories can be selected with the left mousebutton.
  150.     If you depress it a second time, they will then be de-selected.
  151.

  153. 3.1.4 Moving of files within a window
  154.  
  155.     With "+" and "-" you can scroll the files up or down.
  156.  
  157.     - Swap: Will swap SOURCE and DESTINATION.
  158.  
  159.     - "->": Will copy SOURCE to DESTINATION.
  160.  
  161.     - "<-": Will copy DESTINATION to SOURCE.

  164. 3.1.5 Note
  165.  
  166.     When your mouse is above a file, the file-length will be
  167.     displayed.
  168.

  170. 3.2 The DOS-Operator
  171.  
  172. 3.2.1 Copying and deleting of files
  173.  
  174.     - Copy:    All selected files and directories of SOURCE will be
  175.         copied to DESTINATION. If a file with the same name
  176.         already exists there Dos-Manager will request an
  177.         alternative filename.
  178.  
  179.     - Move: The same as "Copy", but the files/directories will be
  180.         deleted after being copied.
  181.  
  182.     - Transmit: The same as "Copy", but here you can enter a new
  183.         filename before copying.
  184.  
  185.         Example: You want to copy the file "df0:z/Egon" to
  186.             "df1:", but there it should have another name.
  187.             Now select "Transmit". A questionaire will appear
  188.             in which you can anter a new filename. Change
  189.             "Egon" in e.g. "Hugo". The file "Egon" will now
  190.             be copied to "df1:", but with the name "Hugo".
  191.  
  192.     - Delete: Deletes all selected files (or directories) from
  193.           the SOURCE.
  194.  
  195.         !!! ATTENTION!!!: Delete will completely delete
  196.             all files and subdirectories found in any
  197.             selected directory.

  199. 3.2.2 File operations
  200.  
  201.     - MakeDir: Here you can create a directory in the right hand
  202.         window.
  203.  
  204.     - List: Gives you information (e.g. length, number of used blocks)
  205.         of all selected files/directories.
  206.  
  207.     - PList: The same as "List", but the information will be given out
  208.         on the printer.
  209.  
  210.     - Type:    Here you can display all selected files in either ASCII or
  211.         HEXadecimal.
  212.  
  213.     - PType: The same as "Type", but the files will be printed.
  214.  
  215.     - Rename: Here you can change the name(s) of all selected file(s)/
  216.         directory(ies).

  219. 3.2.3 Other possible selections
  220.  
  221.     - All: Selects all files/directories of SOURCE.
  222.  
  223.     - Clear: De-selects all filenames and directories.
  224.  
  225.     - Pattern: Here you can enter a wildcard pattern. If a file 
  226.         agrees with the pattern, it will be selected.
  227.  
  228.  
  229. 3.3 The IFF-Operator
  230.  
  231.     - ShowPicture: All selected files will be displayed as pictures.
  232.         The pictures must be saved in the IFF-ILBM-Format. In
  233.         the top left corner of the screen you will find the
  234.         symbol to close.
  235.  
  236.     - PlaySample: All selected IFF-8SVX-Files will be played as
  237.         samples. To stop simply press the right mousebutton.

  240. 3.4 UserCommands
  241.  
  242.         Here you can call some programmes from Dos-Manager. It
  243.     is possible to give a selected filename your programme as a 
  244.     parameter. You can programme twelve commands and save them with
  245.     "SavePrefs".
  246.  
  247.  
  248. 3.4.1 To programme a personal command
  249.  
  250.         First select "Change" to let the Dos-Manager know that
  251.     you want to enter a new command, then the command you want to
  252.     change (UserCmd1 - UserCmdC). There follows a questionaire which
  253.     you enter as follows:
  254.  
  255.     - Gadget-Text: Here you can enter the name of the symbol. This
  256.         name will afterwards appear on the screen.
  257.  
  258.     - Dos-Command: Name and path of the programme you want to start.
  259.         Please enter always the full pathname.
  260.  
  261.     - Arguments 1 / Arguments 2 : Here you can enter a few arguments
  262.         needed by your programme.
  263.  
  264.     - Insert filename ?: Select "Yes" if you want your filename/
  265.         directory-name given as a parameter, otherwise "No".
  266.  
  267.     Two parameter-lines are needed, because the filename will be put
  268.     between the line of "Arguments 1" and that of "Arguments 2". If
  269.     you don´t need a parameter before or after the filename, simply
  270.     leave the line empty.

  272.     Examples:
  273.         (1)    You want to call "MEmacs" from Dos-Manager and want to
  274.         give a filename as parameter:
  275.         Syntax: MEmacs [filename]
  276.  
  277.         Please enter as follows:
  278.  
  279.         Gadget-Text: e.g. "MEmacs"
  280.         Dos-Command: "Extras1.3:Tools/MEmacs"
  281.         Arguments 1:
  282.         Arguments 2:
  283.         Insert filename ?  Yes
  284.  
  285.         (2) You want to start MEmacs, but you don´t need a filename.
  286.         You could enter as follows:

  288.         Gadget-Text: "Edit"
  289.         Dos-Commad: "Extras1.3:Tools/MEmacs"

  292.         Insert filename ?  No

  294.         (3) You want to give out a file in hexadecimal writing to the
  295.         CLI-window using the command "type":
  296.         Syntax: Type filename [to outfile] [OPT N|H]

  298.         Gadget-Text: "Type2"
  299.         Dos-Command: "C:Type"
  300.         Arguments 1:
  301.         Arguments 2: "opt h"
  302.         Insert filename ?  Yes

  305. 3.4.2 Calling a programme
  306.  
  307.         Simply select the symbol of your programme. If that
  308.     requires a filename it will be given a selected filename as a
  309.     parameter. Your command will be called as often as there are
  310.     selected filenames in the SOURCE window. All filenames will
  311.     be given, one after the other, your programme as a parameter.
  312.         While your programme is executed the Workbench will be
  313.     displayed. When finished the Dos-Manager-Screen will
  314.     re-appear.
  315.

  317. 3.5 Extras
  318.  
  319.     - Format: If you click this symbol you can format a disk by
  320.         calling the programme "Sys:System/Format". If you
  321.         choose "Format" a questionaire will appear in which
  322.         you can enter the disk drive and the disk name.
  323.  
  324.     - DiskCopy: Here the programme "Sys:System/Diskcopy" will be
  325.         called. If you choose "DiskCopy" a questionaire will
  326.         appear in which you can enter the source and the
  327.         destination drive.
  328.  
  329.     - Palette: Here you can change the colours of the screen.
  330.  
  331.     - SavePrefs: Here you can save the attitudes of "UserCommands",
  332.         those of "Include" and "Exclude" and the colours of the
  333.         screen. Thereby the file "Sys:t/Dos-Manager.prefs" will
  334.         be created.
  335.  
  336.     - Relabel: Here you can change the name of a disk.
  337.  
  338.     - About: Name and address of the author.
  339.  
  340.     - Quit: Exists from this programme.
  341.

  343. 4. Hints
  344.  
  345.     - If you change the files, that are loaded at the moment by
  346.       Dos-Manager, with another programme, you should "Read" them
  347.       again.
  348.  
  349.     - Please note that the attitudes of "Include" and "Exclude" are
  350.       also saved. If some files aren´t displayed, please check the
  351.       attitudes.
  352.  
  353.     - To load all filenames a "*" must exist by "Include".
  354.  
  355.     - If you want to call some CLI-Commands (e.g. Dir,Type,Run,...)
  356.       you should use those of ARP.
  357.  
  358.     - Please note that there are some errors in Workbench version 1.2.
  359.       (Format crashes sometimes). If you get problems try using
  360.       version 1.3.
